2016 Excellence in Business and Community Awards
Don’t miss this year’s Excellence in Business and Community Awards!
These award ceremonies are a prominent display from the Chamber’s distant past, but about two years ago the Chamber’s current CEO, Jamie Monozon, decided that they should make a comeback! The awards ceremony “is something that I brought back from the ashes,” Jamie says. This relatively new and exciting display of community development that has brought businesses into the limelight started up two years ago and has become a typical example of the Chamber’s effort to bring more attention to the businesses of San Bruno.
“It is important to acknowledge the business community because we have so many great businesses here in San Bruno.” Jamie recollects the reason behind these new award ceremonies as an effort to recreate an old favorite of hers from a local newspaper. “Back in the day there was a section in the newspaper that used to say the ‘best of’ and that was something that was just so great for the community and, I mean, when you look at San Bruno now” you can see just how many businesses and community members that the Chamber, and Jamie, would nominate as the “best of.”
“I personally always want to draw attention to a lot of the businesses in San Bruno.” -Jamie Monozon
Historically, the awards ceremony celebrating the past year’s top businesses has been a night time dinner event. This year the Chamber is looking to spice things up by putting the awards ceremony in the middle of a luncheon! This may be a unique opportunity to bring more attendees out of the wood work by not cutting into the commonly reserved family dinner time that many of San Bruno’s community members look forward to.
In order to be entered into the competition, one has to be a member of the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce. Each business is placed into the following categories which is largely based on the number of employees the business has: Individual (Home-Based), 2-4 Employees, 5-9 Employees, 10-25 Employees, 26-50 Employees, 50+ Employees, Non-Profit of the Year, Children’s Services, New member of the Year, Restaurant of the Year.
Throughout the past few months multiple surveys have been sent out to all Chamber of Commerce members, in order to choose a Business of the Year for each of the listed categories. Excellence awards will be given to the top three choices of each category, but only one Business of the Year, per category, will be chosen. And finally, the following Surprise Awards will be announced at the luncheon: Volunteer of the Year, Mayor’s Award, and Bob Marshall Sr. Award!
